Cookie, the popular eatery, deli and shop revolutionising the culinary scene on Glasgow’s southside, has been named Glasgow Newcomer of the Year 2010 for breaking the mould of local eating and drinking in this year’s List Eating and Drinking Guide.
The guide covers 953 bars, restaurants, bistros, cafés, takeaways, diners and sandwich bars in Glasgow, Edinburgh and, for the first time, around Scotland.
Cookie co-owner, Domenico Del Priore, said, “We’re absolutely delighted to win this award! Having said from the outset that our aim is to break down the barriers between food production, distribution, preparation and consumption, it’s particularly satisfying to be recognised for breaking the mould of local eating and drinking.
“And given that at least 113 new restaurants have opened this year, winning this award really is an amazing achievement, particularly since we opened our doors in December!”
Reviews for the annual List Eating and Drinking Guide are carried out by over 80 reviewers, the majority of whom have been working for the Guide for several years so they are able to identify the year’s new trends.
83 non-professional food enthusiasts are drafted in across the two cities to review and discuss each entry. Most of these have been working on the guide for several years. One reviewer was diagnosed with gout this year.
3000 hours is spent tasting, researching interviewing and then recording the results to compile Scotland’s most extensive source of dining out data.
