Egressus – a final year exhibition by Glasgow Metropolitan PDA Photography students opens at The Lighthouse on Friday 28th May 2010 at 3.30pm.
21 final year students will showcase their best and most interesting photographic work after completing the Professional Development Award at the city’s largest college. The exhibition reflects student’s individual approach to photography, containing original and controversial work arising from briefs and photographic obsessions.
The name Egressus – a Latin word meaning 'departure’ – was chosen to illustrate the end of each student’s academic career and the start of their professional life. And these students certainly have the edge to make it in the profession – between them they have been shortlisted and won an array of national and international awards bringing the photography department at Glasgow Met to the fore of emerging photo talent.
Commenting on the venue, PDA student Simona Schirru says 'I looked at lots of possibilities for venues for our end of year show, but it was difficult to find somewhere appropriate that would really showcase our work, however The Lighthouse fits the bill perfectly'
Staff have been delighted by their enterprising students who raised the money to fund their final exhibition through a highly successful photo auction earlier this year. Students convinced some of the industry’s biggest names, including Colin Prior, David Eustace and Simon Murphy, to put their images under the hammer alongside student and staff work.
PDA course leader John Carberry says: “This exhibition venue is fantastic and will be the perfect showcase for an exceptional group of photographic students. They have raised the funds for this show and produced a set of limited edition prints which will be available for sale once the exhibition opens on Friday 28th May.”
Students would like to thank the Forrest Group for their generous support in displaying their work and promoting the exhibition on City Screen above Central Station.
