As if the appetizing menu of fresh pasta and pizza dishes wasn’t enough to entice diners into Paperino’s @ 78 St Vincent Street, an added attraction can now be found in the prospect of being served by Miss Earth Scotstoun 2010!
That’s because Christine McGarrity, a waitress in the city centre restaurant, the third in the popular Paperino’s pizzeria chain, has just been awarded the title and, as one of the competition’s grand finalists, will proceed to compete in the UK final in Blackpool this September.
22 year old Ms McGarrity said, “I’m delighted to have been crowned Miss Earth Scotstoun because I’ve always had a keen interest in environmental issues and this title will help me play a small part in helping save the planet – but I’ve no plans to stop serving customers at Paperino’s – I love it too much!”
And Paperino’s is the perfect working environment for a green campaigner as the pizzeria recently decided to play its part to help save the planet by investing in an innovative ‘Little Smasher’ glass recycling solution.
Mark Billington, Managing Director of Paperino’s, said, “We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint and, with a little help from a Little Smasher now none of our glass waste will go to landfill. Instead, all 100% of it will be recycled into eco-sand for alternative uses, including as road paint. We wish Christine the best of luck in the Miss Earth final.”
Miss Earth contestants are required to be committed to playing a part in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations. The annual search aims to find five Earth Girls who will represent their country in Miss Earth fulfilling the ideals of the competition.
Miss Earth awards four titles representing the four elements: Miss Air, Miss Water, Miss Fire, The Miss Earth title being the top award presented to the overall winner of the England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland country titles. The five overall winners will represent their home country in Miss Earth and compete with contestants from over 90 countries participating.
