Highland company Bonk & Co, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of wood-burning stoves, has announced its expansion into Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The ‘southern arm’ of the business, expected to be open in time for Christmas, will be managed by Alex Dolby, grandson of the company’s founder William and son of Inverness-based managing director manager Andrew.
The superstitious young Highlander has refused to reveal the location of the new showroom just yet for fear of jeopardising his plans. It is, however, reportedly in a very central location near the Holyrood area of the city.
One thing is for sure, no matter where it is, the showroom will be the perfect platform from which to display Bonk’s range of medium to high-end wood burning stoves from some of the industry’s most respected names, including Charnwood, Reis, Harrie Leenders and Clearview.
Family firm Bonk & Co was established in 1975 on the Black Isle peninsula and has since earned a reputation for providing top quality products and customer service.
On the move south, Alex said: “I am very excited about bringing Bonk & Co to Edinburgh and the Lothians, an area steeped in history with a range of buildings perfectly suited to our traditional and contemporary stoves.
“The demand for quality wood-burning stoves continues to rise as householders become more aware of the economic and ‘green’ benefits of switching to woodfuel. The principal benefit is a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and the fact it effects a reduction in our reliance on fossil fuels, which consequently helps to lower carbon emissions.
“Wood fuels can also be cheaper than fossil fuels in many circumstances, which is reflected in the increasing number of installations we are experiencing in domestic and commercial properties. One thing we do at Bonk is to ensure people are well-informed on every aspect of wood-burning stoves before they buy, so everyone goes home with the right stove for them.”
Notes to Editors
Bonk & Co Ltd was established in a garage on the Black Isle, just north of Inverness, 35 years ago. The business was the brainchild of William Dolby, father of current Managing Director Andrew Dolby and grandfather of Edinburgh Manager Alex Dolby. Since then, Bonk & Co has grown every year but its ethos remains constant – a quality family business offering the quality products and service.
Everyone involved in the firm is driven by the same principles that have been ingrained into its work ethic for years. Bonk does not simply sell stoves, it live stoves. They are a passion for the workforce and every employee works hard to strengthen their knowledge about every aspect of the industry.
In the interests of quality assurance, the firm does not sell through the Internet or match Internet prices. A stove must be carefully sized for each individual room and also it is very hard to appreciate the beauty and individuality of a stove on a computer screen or in a brochure.
