Following a successful pilot period, The Scottish Institute of Sport Foundation has today (15th May) announced the national roll-out of www.inthewinningzone.com with an exclusive interview with Walter Smith.
www.inthewinningzone.com – an interactive sports website targeted at 16-25 year-olds – has already had 8000 hits and has generated 102 registered users. The Foundation has also today begun a nationwide online advertising campaign to raise awareness of the website among its target audience.
Commenting on the official launch, Graham Watson, executive director of The Scottish Institute of Sport Foundation, said: “We want www.inthewinningzone.com to inspire young Scots to cultivate a ‘winning mentality’ through the influence of sport and its benefits. In turn, this positive sporting spirit will work as a catalyst for success in all areas of life, such as education, career and family.”
The site features the following three sections:
News: updated daily, with feeds from a number of professional press agencies. The news is exclusively and uniquely Scottish-based, featuring local headlines and news on Scottish athletes from around the world.
TheWinningZine: an online magazine which features interviews with top Scottish sportspersons to relay many of the positive messages of The Foundation. Rather than simply covering the next big game, www.inthewinningzone.com interviews focus on what it takes to become a champion and how these famous sportspeople motivate themselves to succeed.
Forthcoming interviews on www.inthewinningzone.com include John Collins, Gregor Townsend and Stephen Hendry.
In addition, each month sees different featured sports, coinciding with a major event in that field.
Sportspace: an online community which is aimed at encouraging interaction between individuals and teams. Users can set up their own unique profile complete with name, stats, achievements and photographs. They can blog and interact on forums and within the next few months will also be able to download podcasts.
This section of the website also includes a video gallery with clips of some of Scotland’s greatest sporting moments, with footage supplied by STV.
The underlying theme of each of these sections is success, winning and confidence, and the website will be used to steer users towards becoming the next generation of ‘Winning Scots’.
