Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, said: “Behind these revised figures released today (Monday) by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, are thousands of families across the UK facing the nightmare of repossession. It is vital that we do not become complacent, and continue to work hard to prevent repossession wherever possible.
“Shelter Scotland has been an active member of the repossessions working group and we look forward to the Scottish Government turning the report’s recommendations into law as swiftly as possible. This legislation would extend the protections available to homeowners in Scotland and help keep families in their own homes. Now is the time for action.
“Putting these plans to legislate into practice now needs to be the top priority of MSPs to help prevent more families facing the tragedy of repossession and homelessness.
