Glasgow residents and business owners have a chance to experience the lightning speed of the latest fibre optic broadband when BT’s super-fast broadband demonstration bus rolls into the city at the weekend.
The arrival of the BT Infinity double-decker at Mansfield Park gives households and businesses the chance to see for themselves how super-fast broadband can transform online time – and one lucky family can win free BT Infinity for 18 months!
With download speeds of up to 40Mb/s and uploads of up to 10Mb/s, BT Infinity broadband provides a more powerful internet connection allowing multiple users to do more online at the same time and in an instant.
During the bus visit BT will be searching for a Superfamily who can demonstrate that they use the internet as an integral part of their home life. The winning family will be presented with a free, 18-month subscription to BT Infinity.
Demos on board the bus will show how homes with multiple computers and internet devices enjoy the simultaneous use of services such as HD TV, gaming, social networking and the sharing of large files like photos or films.
Consumers will also benefit from high-quality streaming of popular video content from web sites like iPlayer and YouTube, as well as much faster music downloads and online games.
Brendan Dick, director, BT Scotland, said: “Parts of Hillington, Cardonald, Crookston, Giffnock, Bridgeton and the west end of the city are among the first places in the UK to benefit from BT’s fibre broadband and we are very keen to show local people the internet as they’ve never seen it before. As online services advance and evolve, BT’s fibre-based broadband will really make the difference in homes where competition is hotting up for internet access. BT Infinity will have a real, positive impact on that experience.
“We are also urging businesses to come along and see how fibre-based broadband can deliver increases in productivity. BT Total Broadband Fibre gives businesses a dedicated broadband ‘fast lane’ allowing them to run applications simultaneously, download e-mails and ftp files* alongside VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), cloud computing and HD video conferencing. Home working is also better supported, allowing people to stay in touch regardless of adverse weather or traffic jams!”
The new super-fast broadband service starts at £19.99 per month for home users while BT Business Total Broadband Fibre starts at £30 per month.
The BT Infinity bus will be located at Mansfield Park on Sunday, June 27 (10am to 6pm) and Monday, June 28 (10am to 5pm). Households and businesses are welcome to come along and visit the bus during those times.
Meanwhile, BT has just announced that, if investment conditions are favourable, it sees potential to spend an additional £1 billion rolling out super-fast, fibre-based broadband to up to two-thirds of UK premises by 2015, making a total planned investment of £2.5 billion.
