Scots firms are to reap the benefits of a Memorandum of Understanding between BusinessClub Scotland, BusinessClub India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Witnessed by First Minister Alex Salmond, the formal agreement will enable BusinessClub Scotland to share best practice and promote trading opportunities between Scotland and India leading from Delhi 2010 to Glasgow 2014 and beyond.
Attending the Commonwealth Games XIX in Delhi with a 40-strong delegation of Scottish businesses, Dr Lesley Sawers, chair of BusinessClub Scotland, said: “This agreement will formalise the strong working relationship that already exists between BusinessClub Scotland and BusinessClub India. It will allow us to share best practice and will lead to further business between India and Scotland.”
The First Minister said: “The signing of the Memorandum is an important step in the developing collaboration between Scotland and India. It builds on our existing strong business links, with leading companies headquartered in Scotland such as Aggreko, Cairn Energy, Standard Life and Weir Group already very active in India. Our expertise in key sectors makes Scotland an increasingly attractive and important location for Indian business, and I'm pleased the Scottish Government's India Plan is beginning to reap tangible rewards.”
Mr Ajay Shriram, BusinessClub India, said: “CII has recently concluded a series of business conferences alongside the Commonwealth Games as part of the BusinessClub India activities. These conferences had envisaged a high level of interest from various Commonwealth countries, particularly in areas of infrastructure development, information technology and tourism. CII are looking forward to working with BusinessClub Scotland for mutual benefit to Scottish and Indian business.”
