Birmingham's schools are being given the chance to win cutting-edge technology that could make a major difference to the way their students work, learn and play.
Offering schools in the Birmingham area a chance to win £30,000 worth of computer equipment, competition judges are asking staff to say why they should be given the IT to enhance scholastic life. Whether it be by building new wireless networks, installing state-of-the-art printers in the art department or simply upgrading the equipment used to teach vocational skills, organisers are keen to hear from institutions that want to use the latest high-tech kit not only to improve learning but also to reduce the cost of support and improve performance.
“There are so many ways that technology can be used in schools. Whether it be breathing new life into the science labs, providing exciting new creative arts facilities or just cutting your institution's carbon footprint by installing the new breed of power-saving hardware, the only limit to what educators can do with the latest IT is their own imaginations,” said Lisa Ergun, Sales Manager for IT247.
“Given the budget cuts that have left many schools struggling and given the importance of IT in this day and age, we're delighted to give at least one local secondary school the support it needs to give its students the best possible start in life.”
Leading technology companies IT247, Gateway, Hitachi Data Systems and Microsoft have joined together to offer the prize, which will see one lucky school enjoy the benefits of brand new IT equipment, software and expert support as it heads into 2011. The organisers, who will unveil the winner at a ceremony in December, plan to award the grant to the institution that impresses them most with its plans to put the new kit to best use over the coming years.
Secondary schools wishing to enter should provide the details of their current IT infrastructure and indicate in less than 200 words why they are best candidate to win the £30,000 prize. Entries must be received by the closing date of November 26 and the winner will be announced at a special forum on December 1 by a VIP guest speaker.
