A major new event designed to showcase the very best of North-east business is to be opened by one of the area’s leading entrepreneurs.
James Milne CBE, chairman and managing director of Balmoral Group, is to perform the official opening of Thursday’s (October 27th) Granite Expo 2011, a free event which will showcase businesses operating in and connected to the region.
Granite Expo is believed to be the first SME showcase of its kind in the North-east of Scotland and is supported by Original 106fm and Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
An impressive line-up of more than 100 exhibitors from many sectors includes Gleneagles Hotel, Harrods, Eastern Airways, Emirates, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, AECC, Aberdeen City Council, Deveron Group and Aiken Group.
There will also be an all-day networking café, workshops, demonstrations, networking and knowledge sharing opportunities as well as seminars on topics ranging from maximising profit and avoiding HR pitfalls, to social media and maintaining a healthy workforce.
The 9am to 6.30pm event, managed by Business Plus Scotland, will feature a networking breakfast for exhibitors sponsored by Central Insurance Services and an evening reception for exhibitors sponsored by Orchid. In addition will be an invitation-only lunch for senior executives entitled: “Winning for Growth.” The lunch will be sponsored by Glowinkowski International Ltd and offers six tables discussing six different topics.
Jim Milne commented on the inaugural expo: “I am delighted to have been asked to open Granite Expo which has been promoted as a celebration of SMEs across the North-east of Scotland.
“Our region should be rightfully proud of its history of entrepreneurship, innovation and, above all, hard work. There are many examples of both local and global success I could give and I am delighted that so many companies have supported this exciting new business opportunity.
“I wish Granite Expo well and look forward to watching the event grow in future years.”
Event organiser Brett Jackson is hopeful that Granite Expo will become an annual event. He said: “Granite Expo has completed the journey from concept to reality in just 100 days and we are delighted at the response to this inaugural event.
“The fact that so many renowned nationally and internationally recognised organisations have come on board is a very positive statement on how they view the economy of our region and we hope that Granite Expo will provide a new and exciting platform to do business.”
