A Scottish rental portal has been celebrating its continued success after winning a prestigious business award, on the same day it was named as the UK’s leading residential lettings site.
Citylets, which operates in Scotland and Northern Ireland, scooped Best Niche Portal at the PROPERTYdrum B2B awards on the same day as being confirmed by Experian Hitwise as the number one lettings site in the UK in a custom category of residential lettings sites.
The awards which were held at the Lancaster Hotel, London this month, were established by PROPERTYdrum magazine to recognise excellence in the products and services that support estate and lettings agencies.
The rental experts fought off stiff competition from the likes of Adzuna, founded by Doug Monro the ex MD of Gumtree, to be named ‘Best Niche Portal’ at the awards which was judged by a panel of leading industry figures.
Citylets was also confirmed as the UK’s leading lettings site by Experian Hitwise, the online competitive intelligence company, in a custom category of residential lettings websites on the same day as winning the award.
Thomas Ashdown, Founder and MD of Citylets said: “It was great to win the award from such a distinguished judging panel. Confirmation of our position as the UK’s most visited residential lettings site (in April 2012) on the same day was a great bonus and no less than my talented team deserve.
“Citylets strives to provide a quality service to help people across Scotland find their ideal rental home and it may be encouraging for landlords and agents in the UK to know that there are credible niche sites such as ours available to them. Renting is a local phenomenon with 86 per cent of tenants moving within Scotland so there is no need for the UK to be dominated by large UK-wide sites.
“We continue to invest in our brand and we are starting to see a clear gap opening up between us and our competitors.”
As well as being the UK’s number one residential lettings portal, Citylets established its quarterly datareports in 2007 to fill a knowledge gap about the Scottish rental market. Although more than one in ten homes in Scotland is rented privately, there was little detailed information about the sector.
www.citylets.co.uk was launched in late 1999 and is Scotland’s most successful lettings portal. Its quarterly report is the country’s only detailed and independent barometer of the rental market, based on over 60,000 annual lettings from more than 400 agents and is now a respected resource among investors, landlords and letting agencies. Citylets also operates in Greater Belfast and other parts of N Ireland.
