A new website designed to help people achieve success in Scotland’s media industry has been launched and is receiving glowing reviews from its users.
Media presenter Colin Kelly and fellow social media expert Gary Ennis from NSDesign have worked together to produce www.colinkelly.net – a comprehensive online site containing practical tips and industry advice for teachers and students of journalism, and others interested in pursuing a career in the media.
Colin Kelly has been working in the media industry for 16 years. Since graduating from Napier University with a degree in journalism in 1999, he has worked for the BBC, STV, Real Radio and Clyde 1.
Recent graduate and now-freelance writer and blogger, Alessia Cesana, has been utilising the new site. She said: “As a young woman taking her first steps into the job market, Colin’s new website has been a fantastic resource. Colin has shown a real willingness to share his mistakes, as well as his positive experiences, which is really meaningful. It also saves you a lot of time!”
Colin explained the rationale behind his new site: “When I first started out in the media, I got a lot of encouragement and support from journalists and presenters who had made it in the industry. Without them I would not have got to where I am today.
“Practical tips are invaluable for new graduates pursuing work opportunities – after operating in a freelance capacity in the industry for a number of years, I’m familiar with how it all works and now I really want to do my bit to help some of the new talent coming through.
“NSDesign helped me to produce a website which is easy to use and manage. Having worked with Gary in a freelance capacity for the past year, he knew exactly what it was that I wanted and has worked wonders to help me achieve that.”
Gary Ennis is the managing director of NSDesign – an award winning web design and social media company which he founded in 1999. NSDesign works with a number of high profile businesses, including Glasgow Airport and the Glasgow Rocks professional basketball team.
Colin and Gary, who met on the social networking site Twitter, work together on a regular basis to deliver social media workshops to small businesses on behalf of Business Gateway.
Gary Ennis said: “Colin Kelly’s new website is a brilliant resource for youngsters looking to get ahead in the media industry.
“Having worked with Colin regularly over the past year at NSDesign, I knew what it was he was after, and I hope that this new website will help lots of Scottish youngsters looking to make it in the media industry today.”
