MICHELLE McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns, has been elected onto the board of East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce.
The appointment acknowledges the transformative effect McCabe has had on the shopping centre – and the corresponding boost this has given the local economy – since her appointment 18 months ago.
McCabe said: “I’m delighted with this appointment, which places The Avenue at the centre of East Renfrewshire’s business sector, and look forward to playing an active role in helping encourage private and social enterprise and advancing the interests of commerce in East Renfrewshire.
“The Avenue has a long and proud tradition of supporting the local business community and this appointment will enable me to extend and strengthen that tradition.
“East Renfrewshire enjoys a hard-earned but well-deserved reputation as one of the best areas to live in Scotland with a welcoming environment, quality housing and the best schools in the country (not to mention an award-winning shopping centre!) attracting families and business into the area to create a dynamic local economy.”
Last month, The Avenue announced its principal sponsorship of the East Renfrewshire Business Awards and its sponsorship of the retailer of the year award for companies with less then ten employees (won by beauty salon Davos).
McCabe’s appointed to the board of East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce follows her being named runner-up for two SCEPTRE awards – the ‘Oscars’ of the shopping centre sector – for Manager of the Year – Small Centre and Marketing Manager of the Year – Small Centre.
These runner-up awards followed last month’s presentation of a coveted Purple Apple Merit Award when The Avenue won the strategic/overall integrated marketing campaign category of the awards organised by the British Council of Shopping Centres.
And earlier this year, The Avenue was short listed as a finalist in the Best Shopping Complex category for the inaugural Scottish Entertainment Guide Awards 2012.
East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce seeks to provide guidance in all aspects of business affairs in the community, promote co-operation with civic authorities and provide a forum for the exchange of information of mutual interest.
The Avenue Shopping Centre, which is managed by commercial property consultancy BTWShiells, offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
