THE programme for the 2012 Inverness Film Festival has today been announced by Film Festival director, Paul Taylor. This is the tenth Inverness Film Festival and all screenings will take place in Eden Court’s La Scala and Playhouse cinemas from 07 – 11 Nov 2012.
The opening film of this year’s festival is the Scottish Premiere of Amour, from Director Michael Haneke.
(The White Ribbon). The Festival will close on 11 November with the Scottish Premier of Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut, Quartet, starring some of the greatest British actors around including Dame Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Billy Connelly and Tom Courtenay.
In the intervening days, Eden Court’s two cinemas will play host to 18 other Scottish Premieres, including a return from Director Thomas Vinterberg (Festen) with The Hunt, winner of three awards at this year’s Cannes Film Festival including Best Actor for Mads Mikelsen (Valhalla Rising) who gives a career best as a nursery teacher falsely accused of child abuse.
George Melies’ 110 year old film A Trip to the Moon will be screened alongside an inspiring documentary detailing the film’s preservation. There will also be screenings of two of Alfred Hitchcock’s early silent films; The Pleasure Garden and Blackmail and both will be accompanied by live music from musician, Wendy Hiscocks. Plus, from the era of the grand cinema-scope epic, David Lena’s sumptuous classic, Lawrence of Arabia will be screened using a beautiful brand new digital print.
Those looking for light entertainment won’t be disappointed by irreverent New Zealand comedy, Two Little Boys, a riotous tale of two best mates on a series of misadventures, starring Bret McKenzie (one half of Flight of the Conchords).
