SCOTLAND’S only silent film festival is returning to the country’s oldest purpose-built cinema.
The Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema is back for its third year and will be taking place on 13-17 March 2013 in the Hippodrome cinema, Bo’ness. The Festival is fast becoming one of the key events in the UK film festival calendar to feast on silent films. It offers a special cinema experience of watching classic and rare movies accompanied live by international acclaimed musicians performing in the beautifully refurbished picture palace. And after the success of the first two Festivals, we’ve extended this year’s event from three to five days to fit as many events in as possible!
In 2011 and 2012, we welcomed Festival audiences to a wide variety of workshops, performances and films from three decades of the silent era. Stars on-screen have included Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Laurel and Hardy, and the gorgeous Clara Bow. Accompanying the movie stars, we had live performances of scores and improvised pieces on everything from piano, strings, brass and wood wind instruments to accordion and percussion.
For 2013, we’re planning another packed Festival. The full programme for the Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema will be announced on Tuesday 5 February 2013. Tickets will go on sale to the public that day and we’ll have an Early Bird ticket offer from that date: save ten per cent on your tickets if you book before Monday 25 February.
Photocall – You are invited to send a representative/photographer to a photocall to launch the Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema on Tuesday 5 February at 9am-10am at the Hippodrome cinema, 10 Hope Street, Bo’ness EH51 0AA.
Joining us for the photocall will be performers and composers starring at this year’s Festival along with Festival Director, Alison Strauss. Silent movies will be showing in this glorious pre-Art Deco cinema and interviews will be available to offer a preview of the Festival and background on this historic building and the Festival itself. Refreshments will be available.
A full press release will be issued ahead of the programme announcement.
