DESPITE the economic downturn, it has been found that 42 per cent of office workers feel the financial crisis has actually increased the need for their office to be greener and more resource efficient.
To mark the recent green office week (13th-17th May), a local reprographics firm is advising businesses to seriously consider their environmental policies and encourage employees to champion greener ways of working.
North East Reprographics (NER), headquartered in Aberdeen, is encouraging businesses to consider their workplace practices, importantly, their printing procedures, in order to create a more sustainable working environment.
Businesses can improve their green footprint by using energy efficient printers and copiers, which generate up to 90 per cent less printing waste than comparable colour printers. Efficient printers and copiers can also cut the cost of printing as utilising the latest technology can reduce print volumes.
Managing director at NER, John Sheran, said: “Without knowing it, your business could be incurring extra environmental and financial costs on a daily basis. We are committed to meeting our own environmental and sustainability goals, just like many of our customers are, and we can help customers reach those goals. By changing to more energy efficient products, bosses can save money, boost productivity and improve the environmental sustainability and document security of their business.”
Here, we take a look at some top tips on how to create a greener office:
Software – Introduce fleet management software as part of a proactive managed print service to optimise your recourses. Cut back the time and energy spent on manual paper-based processes with workflow management software such as Xerox docushare or Scan flow store.
Use paper wisely - Print on both sides of the page, print multiple images per page and print only the quantity you need at the time you need it. Print on paper certified to sustainable forestry standards or use paper with recycled content. Be selective about what you print, go digital- read, send and store digital documents.
Recycle the paper you use – Install recycling bins around the office to collect paper for recycling or reuse.
Efficient products – Upgrade old products with new, more efficient systems and the savings add up. Some imaging products come complete with an automatic power-down mode so saving energy when not in use.
Replace copiers or printers with multi-function printers that do it all - One multifunction printer that copies, prints, scans, and faxes can use half the energy of all those separate devices.
Product Takeback and Recycling- For equipment at end-of-life, Xerox has a return program to responsibly manage equipment that has reached end of life.
NER offers a wide range of business services and has a strong focus to provide a fully managed service for clients including machine supply and service, helpdesk and first line support, onsite machine support and can offer in-house reprographics facilities. The reprographics firm can also deliver document archiving and shredding and a office supplies ordering service.
NER has strong links with all business sectors in Scotland and the North-east, including numerous oil and gas organisations, with a reputation for service excellence, bolstered by an established help desk facility in Aberdeen.
