A former chair of Scottish Radio Holdings has been appointed the chair of the judging panel for a competition celebrating the best of UK advertising.
Lord Gordon of Strathblane is to head the adjudicating at this year’s Effectiveness Awards, being run by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, with the awards ceremony taking place in Edinburgh.
He is being supported by judges convenor, Richard Storey, chief strategy officer at M&C Saatchi, and deputy convenor, Andy Nairn, planning director at Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy. There are further couple of dozen judges involved in the process – which will culminate with the Edinburgh event on November 13 – including Roger Williams, head of marketing at the
James Gordon was chair of SRH until two years ago, having been its chief executive since 1991 and managing director of Radio Clyde from its foundation in 1972 until 1996. During that time he received a CBE (1984), a Sony Radio Award for Outstanding Services to Radio (1984) and was appointed a Fellow of the Radio Academy (1994).
Ten years ago, he was awarded a peerage. He was a member of the committee on the funding of the BBC in 1998-99, chaired the advisory group on listed sporting events on television in 1997-98, and was chair of radio listenership auditors, RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) until last year.
