An advertising student from Napier University in Edinburgh has been snapped up by a local agency after becoming one of two students from the university to reach the final of a global advertising competition.
Chris Scott and Marcus Culloty have both been shortlisted for prestigious D&AD Global Student Awards, with Chris enjoying the double accolade of being taken on by the Leith Agency.
The pair were shortlisted from a massive 3600 entries submitted, from 41 different countries, for work carried out on behalf of the housing charity, Shelter. Their brief was to promote the fact that Shelter is much more than a charity for the homeless, with a much fuller range of services on offer.
Says Chris: “We felt that some people were unaware that you don’t need to be homeless to get help from Shelter – it offers advice on rent disputes, noisy neighbours, living conditions and much more. To illustrate this, we took photographs of people sitting at home, holding up squares of cardboard with phrases like ‘noisy neighbours’ – a simple, visual way to demonstrate how wide the charity’s remit extends.”
Both Chris and Marcus are on Napier’s MSc Creative Advertising course.
Says Susie Henry, lecturer in creative advertising at Napier: “Chris and Marcus produced some
outstanding work for Shelter. A D&AD Award is the most coveted prize in the business. I’m very proud of them.”
