There’s been a lot of discussion about Edinburgh radio station, talk107, on the online forum of media website, digital spy – as the station nears its second birthday and notwithstanding an article in Friday’s Edinburgh Evening News where programme director, Mike Graham, upset the hosts of a cancer charity quiz night, for asking the audience to “shut the f*** up”.
One particular post caught the eye of Spike. It reads: “The kudos to shareholders of having a station in Edinburgh: capital city, enormous media and cultural hotspot each summer, home of governmental power and legendary tourist attraction is ever so slightly more impressive and worth keeping than having a station in Motherwell or Livingstone [sic]! Especially when that station can boast of regular appearances from The First Minister on its programmes. Businessmen like profits. But they also like access to power.”
And continues: “Here’s what I imagine will happen – purely speculation of course… With a new MD will come a new schedule shake up. This schedule will be given a year to run. In addition maybe the format will be slackened ever so slightly to focus a bit more on Scottish news in general, rather than just East coast. That new look station will sound better. In the next year the figures will go up (next RAJAR will be good I reckon). Talk 107 will continue.”
The thoughts of a current or recent insider, perhaps?
