Sunday Mail columnist, Elaine C. Smith, was writng about the credit crunch the other day, suggesting we can do without some material pleasures and still be happy. Maybe even be happier.

“I’m not suggesting we go back to sackcloth and ashes or give up the things we love,” she began. “But the years of cheap credit didn’t make our lives easier or happier. In some ways, they made us less content.”

Cheap credit like that offered by a glossy, orange promotional insert in the paper, perhaps? The one that says: ‘Pay Less for Your Loan’?
