Staff at the Scottish Daily Mail and Scottish Mail on Sunday are said to have had a year-long pay freeze imposed upon since the beginning of the month.
According to a report in MediaGuardian (here), an email was sent to all staff saying the “very difficult economic conditions” were to blame. Only yesterday, the titles’ owners announced 1000 job cuts at its regional newspapers arm, Northcliffe – which operates in the English Midlands and to the south. It is double what had been predicted in November.
It is understood the only exceptions to the pay freeze are promotions or the completion of agreed training.
