5pm is a Glasgow-based online, restaurant reservation service offering great-value evening meal deals, plus of course, providing the 1000-plus restaurateurs already signed up, UK-wide, the opportunity to fill seats that would otherwise be empty.
And on its blog, earlier this month, it reported a cooking competition, using the canned, pre-cooked meat, Spam.
Accompanied by the headline: ‘Wham Bam Thank You Spam’.
It was nominated for the June Headline of the Month competition – run by allmediascotland, in association with Whyte & Mackay – by freelance food and restaurant writer, Jonathan Trew, a contributor to the blog.
Up for grabs each month are bottles of Whyte & Mackay Special whisky – for both the author of the headline and the person who has nominated it, with the monthly winners entered in a Headline of the Year competition where two bottles, each worth £150, of Whyte & Mackay 30 year-old are the prizes.
allmediascotland has yet to track down who penned ‘Wham Bam Thank You Spam’. Yesterday (here), seven contenders for the June competition were published. Eligible are headlines from Scottish newspapers, magazines and also from online.
Quite who the winner will be is still the subject of some debate. The plan was to have an online poll providing readers the chance to pick the top headline. But the new-look allmediascotland.com website design that will incorporate an online poll is still being feverishly put together.
But woah….! Already there is a nomination for the July competition. It’s from today’s Scottish Daily Express. It accompanies a story about rising noise levels – from neighbours, etc – in Scotland. And night editor, Alasdair Ferguson, is kicking the month off with a beauty: ‘For Whom the Decibels Toll’.
It was nominated by Scottish Daily Express editor, David Hamilton.
