Pundit's Pay Cut Story a Record Report

In a newspaper world where so-called 'exclusives' too often prove to be not the case, it was heartening to see yesterday's Daily Record seemingly resist the temptation to slap a big exclusive banner on its tale of Scots football pundit, Alan Hansen.

Reported the paper, the former Liverpool and Scotland defender had agreed a pay cut of £500,000 a year, as an analyst on the BBC's Match of the Day programme.

Of course, it is possible that the Record's report wasn't an exclusive, and it was being merely honest with its readers.

But the paper certainly beat some of its rivals to the tale, who are running the story (and the claim Hansen was originally on £1.5million a year) today.
